This week I had a very nice invitation to enjoy a breakfast at the Moroccan style, bed and breakfast in Blue Lagoon called Riad Azure. This means “Blue Courtyard”. I must say it was a pleasure to meet the owners Filipe and Shah who were great hosts and can sure provide a great feast for breakfast. Set on one of 5 terraces we sat in the peaceful dining area in the quiet terrace next to the private pool where on a unique, colorful tiled dining table a fresh and very appetizing feast was laid out. Served delicately was a choice selection of fruit teas, Earl Gray or Moroccan mint teas, a basket with a selection of bread and croissants, a mixed platter of cold meats and cheese, local tomato and cucumber, a fabulous homemade muesli cereal and fruit yogurt, freshly squeezed orange juice and a selection of jams. Detail was noticed with tiny tagines containing salt and pepper, beautifully decorated delicate tea glasses sat on pewter coasters. In the center of the table stood the impressive Moroccan style silver tea pots that need kittens to hold them! Yes kittens! They are the Moroccan name for mini type gloves to hold the hot handles with.
There was no pressure to rush this feast and I felt very relaxed. It was a unique experience in wonderful surroundings. The tranquil surroundings were a treat and I was spoilt for a choice of where to sit to relax. All around me were splashes of colour of furniture, cushions and curtains that are bright and inspired by a Moroccan twist. The host are clearly collectable junkies of anything with that twist and these efforts are enhancing the whole experience.
The hosts would have gone over and above if there was anything extra I may have needed.
This is what they have to say about their beautiful house:
We moved to Spain in July 2016. It was very difficult to find a last minute short term accommodation while looking for a property locally and also while we were completing the property purchase. This experience made us get in touch with you and offer our rooms for short term rental for your clients, whether they’re coming for holidays or need a place to stay while looking for a property to buy.
Eventually, we found and bought a villa and on January 1, 2017 officially opened a fully licensed, Moroccan style Bed and Breakfast “The Riad Azure”, located in tranquil Blue Lagoon / San Miguel de Salinas (2 minutes drive from Villamartin).
The Riad Azure offers 2 rooms: The Marrakech Room (double, with the side garden entrance) and The Rabat Room (triple). The rooms share a modern bathroom with complimentary toiletries and The Fez Lounge.
They’re are equipped beyond standard and the licence requirements. Each room contains a safe, a fridge, satellite TV, Air Conditioning (cold and hot) as well as towels, iron and ironing board, hair dryers, tea / coffee making facilities, etc. Internet / Wi-Fi is free within the premises and breakfast with a Moroccan twist is included in the price. The guests do not have access to the kitchen, however the guest book shows nearby pubs and restaurants where the guests can eat lunches and dinners, as well as takeaways where they can order a delivery as there’s crockery and cutlery provided in each room. The doors have also locks installed for security and privacy.
The property grounds consist of 5 terraces, including a hideaway “The Oasis”
A dining and a BBQ area, as well as private pool and an outside shower and several sunlounging areas. Unfortunately, due to the style and build of the property and the various levels of the terraces, we cannot accommodate families with children under the age of 16 or pets (working animals accepted). Unfortunately, this also includes people with a mobility disability, who cannot use a lot of steps.
There’s adequate free street parking in front of the villa. We recommend all out guests to hire a car to visit the neighbourhood or to get to the shopping centre and beaches but also to visit our nearby gems of the region, such as Torrevieja, Cartagena, Orihuela, San Miguel de Salinas, Elche, Alicante and towns and villages where real Spanish life and cuisine can be discovered and enjoyed.
Many thanks again to Filipe and Shah for their hospitality.
